Hello, Freedom Writers! Today is the day! We know everyone is busy getting ready for No Kings Day, so we’ll be brief:
9 Safety Tips for No Kings Day
If you are undocumented or your immigration status is in process, please don’t attend.
Before you go, set your phone security to require your passcode to unlock it. Law enforcement can ask you to unlock your phone by Face ID or finger print, but not by entering your passcode. Do Not Voluntarily Unlock Your Phone For Law Enforcement For Any Reason.
Before you go, tell someone who is not attenting where you’re going and when you expect to be back.
Before you go, write the phone number of a loved one and your lawyer on your body, or memorize them.
While you’re there, wear a mask.
When taking photos, don’t include any activists’ faces. Protest posters, YES! Faces of protesters, NO! Never share any facial photos or other information about another activist (i.e., their name) in a post on social media.
While you’re there, do NOT voluntarily engage with any police, the military, ICE, or anyone posing as them. Do not throw things at, taunt, talk to or give them anything at all.
If stopped by an officer, ask if you are free to go. If they answer yes, walk away.
If you get detained:
Ask to speak to your lawyer.
Do not offer any information. You have the right to remain silent,
Never lie. You have the right to remain silent, but you do not have the right to lie.
Use your phone to record the name and badge number of anyone who attempts to arrest you.
Please Share Pics of Protest Signs or Crowd Size Only - No pics of protesters’ faces, please!
