Facetime with a MAGA Zombie … trying to remember he was probably once a human.

This afternoon, a fellow organizer in my town and I received an email from a good friend of ours who leads a weekly standout on a local overpass. There was a MAGA person who tried harrassing them at the stand out. He was all by himself. The organizers had to call the police.

My initial reaction was: Yuck. No one ever said fighting fascism was going to be easy, but it’s creepy when you see up close and personal what’s going on these angry people’s lives.

It struck me that his guy sounds like he’s deeply lonely. I wonder how much human interaction he gets in a typical ‘day of his life.’

Who knows what he was like before he was bitten by the MAGA zombies?

Before …

… Fox TV convinced him that caravans of immigrants were coming to rape his sisters and daughters and all the elections were rigged,

… FaceBook convinced him that IT was a more trustworthy source of news than the New York Times (which, incidentally, has been around since 1851),

… Trump convinced him he could be instantly superior to black and brown people simply by sending money to WinRed or by buying the occasional pair of gold sneakers.

I feel sorry for this guy, but at the same time, this is no joke. How dangerous is he, really? And how should we as organizers respond?

Indivisible is holding 3 giant meetings online to rally us all around “Strategic Non-Cooperation to Fight Authoritarianism.” Let’s show up and build the change we want to see.
