First: Thanks to all the Freedom Writers who picked up postcards in the last week
You are amazing! The last week of postcard “FLASH DISTRIBUTIONS” was a little rushed and unpredictable but a total of 71 hearty souls stepped up and bought packets. Many of you are probably writing your postcards today, as I write this.
We’re writing to 2680 Wisconsin voters to elect Susan Crawford on April 1st as WI Supreme Court Justice, and we’re writing to another 780 Florida voters to elect Josh Weil as US House Rep on April 1st.
Way to go, Freedom Writers!
Trump is having a good day today … at our expense
Trump not only got his horrendous budget CR (Continuing Resolution) through by threatening to grab even more power in the throws of a government shutdown, but he also scored another big thing yesterday:
>>> HE DIVIDED THE LEFT … AND GRANDLY <<<.
Why did Sen. Schumer vote in favor of the CR? Because:
… or forever? Sounds like a pretty good reason to me. But, unfortunately, that’s not what we’re talking about today. No, instead, we’re at each other’s throats.
Granted, the Dems suck at messaging in this age of social media. If Schumer really did have a good reason for passing the CR, the Dems should have told us and helped us understand it. They need to fix that.
But, hold on. We as activists, in my humble opinion, should also take a peek at ‘our own stuff.’ Sometimes we fail to check our facts before we judge. Sometimes we throw the Democrats under the bus without even TRYING to understand the WHY behind what they did. We should furious at the Trump Regime for posing these no-win choices. Full stop.
Who wins in this situation? The Trump Regime. Not democracy. Not the next generation. Not the rule of law, the environment, the right to choose, the right to vote, etc., etc., etc.
"We are in a perverse, bizarro land where we're having to decide between letting Donald Trump wreck the government this way or wreck the government that way," Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, a Democrat, told CNN.
"What everyone is wrestling with is that either outcome is terrible," Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico added in an interview with the New York Times. "This president has put us in a position where, in either direction, lots of people's constituents are going to get hurt and hurt badly. So people are wrestling with what is the least worst outcome."
Trump, and whomever is advising him, (which who knows? Could be Putin!) are getting really, REALLY good at this. They’re trapping us in no-win conundrums, over and over. When we fail to think out what the Trump Regime might do in the scenario they appear to be pushing us into, we could easily make a false move and walk right into a trap.
Was THAT what Shumer was trying to avoid here? Getting tricked into a government shutdown with no end in sight?
These decisions are tough, and they are just going to get tougher. Unfortunately, Trump has already learned that this approach works … grandly. Which means he will be sure to use it again.
What should we do about it? Clearly, we need to ALL row in the same direction.
For starters, the Dems need to get better at communicating these no-win choices to us, and also to the country. Then, we (the activists for democracy) need to get better at recognizing these tough choices for what they are: Trump Regime tactics. We need to get down and dirty with the facts, and we need to support the Dems when they try to do the right thing in these excruciating difficult situations.
That would be called, “Solidarity.”
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
In solidarity, hope and action, E

Action 4: Support Josh Weil phone banking, sponsored by the Massachusetts Democrats (Thank you Dems!) I know, a lot of people don’t like phone banking. But this one is critical. We should be doing everything we can to help the Dems support Josh Weil in Florida, because he could tilt the House of Reps closer toward a Dem majority.

I agree! Unity, Unity, Unity! Castigating Chuck Schumer gets us nowhere. I think he truly believed he was doing the right, though not easy, thing. He was trying to protect jobs and prevent Trump from having even more power to destroy the government. Republicans must love all the infighting. We shouldn't give them that opportunity to gloat.
