Yesterday’s “Hands Off!” actions were a major success, and I don’t mean to be a party pooper, but, we need to get back to work. After you’ve made this 1 urgent phone call about the tariffs, scroll down to see some more great photos from the Hands Off! actions below!
Stop the Tariffs of King Donald (Please make this 1 urgent phone call today!)
While many of us are still trying to figure out, “Why did Donald impose these wonky tariffs? What is he trying to accomplish?,” Sen. Chris Murphy solved the puzzle:
Donald wants to force all the countries, states, industries and corporations to declare their allegiance to him before he grants them relief from the tariffs … just like Kings used to do.
UUnfortunately for him (and for us!), it’s not going to work because the tariffed countries have no incentive to kiss Kind Donald’s ring. They can always just start trading with each other and exclude us from the loop … permanently … because we’re too unpredictable.
MOST IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ this post by Sen. Chris Murphy on Bluesky about how Donald’s tariffs are similar the ones that Kings levied. Then take this action:
Action 1 - Call your US Rep to Stop the Tariffs of King Donald

Get your Representative’s contact information from the League of Women Voters HERE.’ Please enter their contact information into your phone. You may need to contact them later for other reasons.

The critical thing is this: IF the GOP is forced to take these votes in the House and Senate, we will have them on record as either voting for the AMERICAN PEOPLE (against the tariffs) vs voting for KING DONALD (supporting the tariffs). Even if Trump vetoes these bills, we’ll still have the GOP Congresspeople on record, and we can use that to persuade them to do the right thing for their districts. So the end game here is getting these VOTES to the FLOOR in the House and Senate, not getting Trump to veto or not veto them.
Things are moving fast, so it doesn’t make sense to cite specific bills in your phone calls. Instead, just tell them you know there are some Democratic leaders who are forging ahead and forcing these votes. You want your Congresspeople to join them and force these votes to the floor as well.
Call your US Rep and 2 US Senators and say this:
My name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [YOUR TOWN].
I’m calling to ask what [NAME OF YOUR OFFICIAL] is doing to force a vote to stop the “The Tariffs of King Donald.” There are several bills in play and all of them need to be voted on. We need to get every Congressperson (especially the GOP Congresspeople) ON THE RECORD regarding these tariffs and we need to do it now. I read Chris Murphy’s excellent explanation of how these tariffs are designed to position Donald as king, granting relief in exchange for allegiance. They must be stopped before things get worse.
Please reply with what [NAME OF YOUR OFFICIAL] is doing to FORCE these votes to get to the floor.
