Disturbing Echoes of 1930's Germany
In David Gardner’s article published in the Daily Beast on July 10th, “The Echoes of Hitler that Make Trump the world’s Most Dangerous Man,” Gardner says, “It’s a lazy comparison to draw parallels between Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump. But the specific time we find ourselves in right now in America does, indeed, have some disturbing echoes of 1930s Germany.”
I agree. And I would add that it is also a lazy comparison simply because there are so many parallels, but it’s also an important comparison … simply because there are SO many parallels.
The more we know about how Hitler manipulated the breakthroughs in the communications technologies of his time (namely film and radio) the better. He literally pulled the German culture out from under the feet of the German people and replace it with Nazi information silos. This is exactly what Trump is doing NOW through cable television and social media.
We are, after all, the story animal, and information silos are, and have always been, our Achilles Heel. (Did you catch that cultural story reference there?)
And the more we know about Hitler’s tactics, the better. As we better understand how Hitler forced civic leaders, courts, educational institutions and the press to buckle, the more we understand what Project 2025 and Trump’s hissy-fits with universities are about.
In short, we must know thyne enemy.
I learned a lot about Hitler’s tactics through watching “A French Village,” a television series depicting how the Nazis took over a French village in the 1940’s. At first, the Nazis didn’t use brute force and iron hands. It was more about compromising people through unfair “deal making.” They would approach a local leader and say, “We need to commandeer your school to dentain dangerous people.” And then they would say, “I understand you have a lovely daughter. It would be a shame if something happened to her.” Presto! The school is commandeered.
And once a local official had be compromised once, he could be compromised again and again, each with increasing consequences.
Here’s the link to the MHz platform which has all the seasons. My husband and I binged the whole thing within the 30-day free trial period.
This is serious business, and we need to understand it will in order to fight it.
Thank you for helping us save our democracy.

About the CAD Weekly Action Dispatch:
The CAD (Coordinated Action Dispatch) Team is an Action Team of Indivisible Massachusetts Coalition.
Each week, the CAD Team receives suggested actions from a wide range of activists through its CAD Team Action Submission Form, and works with legislative experts (the Indivisible, ACLU, Common Cause, Progressive Mass and MIRA) to vet and prioritize a short list of actions for the week. These are sent to dozens of newsletter editors and individuals each Wednesday through this, the “CAD Weekly Action Dispatch.”
Please consider distributing these priority CAD actions to your networks each week so we can multiply our power and increase our impact! All actions can be done either by individuals or groups.
This Week’s Top Priority Actions:
Action 1 »
National - Here’s How to Stop U.S. Complicity in Gaza Catastrophe - Mass starvation in Gaza isn’t a “tragedy”, it’s policy. Netanyahu has choked aid to a trickle, turning distribution sites into deadly chaos. It’s so cruel even Trump says it must stop but words mean nothing without action. Click HERE to access the action sheet.
Action 2 »
National - College Alums, Here’s How to Stop Your Alma Mater from Bowing to Trump’s Will (and Trump’s Nazi tactics)! - Trump is bullying universities just like the Nazis once did. If your alma mater is standing strong, speak up and support them. If they’re caving to pressure, call out their cowardice—loudly. Click HERE to access the action sheet.
Action 3 »
National - Here’s How to Demand Accountability: Impeach Trump. AGAIN. - “We either have a Constitution, or we don’t.” -John Bonifaz, President, Free Speech For People. Click HERE to join a petition and access the action sheet.
