Things are moving fast, so keep up with the LA story ... but stay focussed on No Kings Day, 6/14.
Two things:
Our Top Priority Action for the next few days is to stay on top of the story in LA. Use reliable news sources like the AP to follow it. In their story “What to know about Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to LA protests,” they say,
Trump is attempting to place CA National Guard troops under federal command, but he’s only allowed to do that under three circumstances:
When the U.S. is invaded or in danger of invasion;
When there is a rebellion or danger of rebellion against the authority of the U.S. government;
When the President is unable to “execute the laws of the United States,” with regular forces.
But the law also says that orders for those purposes “shall be issued through the governors of the States.” It’s not immediately clear if the president can activate National Guard troops without the order of that state’s governor, Gavin Newsom.
That hasn’t happened yet, so, as with everything about Trump, you don’t know if he can actually make it happen until you know.
Continue making your plans for June 14th. THIS IS CRUCIAL! It is imperative that we all REACT to his “show of wimpy force” with our “show of REAL force.” We must stand up to him on Saturday.
